How to Add Shade to Your Campsite

At beachy campgrounds like Massey’s Landing trees can be a little scarce so you have to get creative when it comes to getting some shade on your campsite.

Here are a few tips on how to give yourself a break from the sun on an RV site.

Get a Screen Room

Adding a screen room to your awning can provide additional shade. It will also protect your from bugs and give you additional living space.

Add a Shade to Your Awning

When the afternoon sun gets low your awning might not be doing much good. Especially if you’re facing the wrong direction. Add a shade to your awning and you’ll be able to diffuse even late afternoon sun.

Put up a Pop-Up Tent

Add some shade by putting a pop-up tent on your site. You can keep it simple with just a canopy or spring for a pop-up gazebo that can function as a second living room.

Add an Umbrella

Bring an outdoor umbrella with you and set your camp chairs up under it. Get a model that tilts and shifts so you can adjust it as the sun moves. You can even get umbrellas with solar powered LED lights so you can easily shed some light on your site at night.

Seasonal Campers

When you’re a seasonal camper you have more leeway to modify your site. Double check the rules of your campground, but semi-permanent solutions like a pavilion on a deck with outdoor curtains or a sun sail can be a great way to add some shade. If you want to get really classy you could invest in a cabana for your outdoor living space.
