Christmas in July, usually recognized on July 25th, is an unofficial holiday that mimics the traditions of Christmas. Made popular at summer camps, Christmas in July is a super fun way to get your cool weather and holiday fix during the hot summer months!
The precise beginning of Christmas in July is not certain, but it is believed to have started in July of 1933 at a girls' camp called Keystone Camp in Brevard, North Carolina. The co-founder of Keystone and the brain behind the concept, Fannie Holt, included carolers, a Christmas tree, Santa Claus, presents and fake snow made of cotton in the first ever Christmas in July celebration.
As years went on, the tradition at Keystone evolved to include stockings made of pillow cases, elves, reindeer and Mrs. Claus. Since its beginning, Christmas in July has become increasingly popular at summer camps, vacation spots and in numerous towns and cities throughout the world.
